Special Show & Tell: Remembrance Day
On the occasion of Remembrance Day, the Guild is proud to show Maureen Rowe’s anti-war rug. This beautiful and unique piece has an interesting story behind its creation.

Wash, not War
2009
Approximately 12-14 x 10-12 inches
#4 cut wool on linen
Judith Dallegret had a studio group that did the 12 months of the year (The Calendar Project, please see below) and our theme was “Laundry Lines”. I got November. My piece was inspired by a Life Magazine photo of a soldier standing next to his tank in the Israeli desert where his washing was hung on the tank.

The Calendar Project was organized by Burma Cassidy of Rochester, Vermont, for a Green Mountain Rug Guild challenge. I was asked by Burma to do a 12-month Montreal challenge which I organized with my own students in Montreal who included some BHCG members - We chose the theme "LAUNDRY LINES“.
