In Memory of Réjean Courtemanche  Réjean Courtemanche (1946-2021) We will all sadly miss Réjean Courtemanche (1946 – 2021), who was a very appreciated member of the Beaconsfield Hooking Crafters Guild. Respectful towards all, he added joy and camaraderie to our meetings, and created beautiful rugs, adding this skill to his many artful talents. We will all keep fond memories of the times shared with him. Réjean’s obituary can be viewed at: Réjean Courtemanche - Avis de décès  We will miss you, dear Réjean. Maud Lewis’s artwork lends itself to rug hooking as her colours are bright, she uses little shading if any, and the scenes are lively, reflecting life outdoors as she saw it in her south west corner of Nova Scotia. Show & Tell / Lorayne Charenko

In Memory of Lorayne Charenko       Lorayne Charenko ( 1924 - 2021) w ith her owl rug at a guild hook-in. The guild was saddened to learn of the recent loss of Lorayne Charenko, one of our longtime members. Lorayne was a guild member for over 40 years and a very talented rug hooker. She served as president from 1993 to 1995 and up until recent years remained very actively involved with all guild activities. Lorayne always had a smile for everyone and loved to see what members were working on, no matter if you were just beginning or an old hand. No one could describe her better than Sally Perodeau, her longtime friend, who began hooking the same year as Lorayne: “Always elegantly dressed and gracious, she was friendly with everyone and always gave generously of her time to helping Guild members, offering advice on hooking techniques and encouraging others to share their talents.”   Lorayne giving Réjean some help with his rug. Whether the subject is famous or unknown, portraits present the viewer with a visual representation or likeness of the person and may also reveal an idea of their personality. Rosemary Jean Hudson. Nefertiti. Rosemary Jean Hudson Nefertiti Inspired from a charcoal drawing of a sculpture of Nefertiti 2016 12” x 14.5” #2 cut I took an advanced rug hooking class with Lois J. Morris, who often provided us with pictures or drawings to inspire us. I chose a charcoal drawing of the bust of Nefertiti, a famous ancient Egyptian sculpture. Using it as a guide, I drew a replica onto linen, and hooked it with purchased wool, cut into #2 strips.
