Remembrance Day

November 11 - Remembrance Day          Today, we take two minutes of silence to reflect on the freedoms and peace we have in our lives. We honour, thank, and remember those who served and sacrificed their lives for us. In Flanders Fields  by Lt Col John McCrae  (Composed at the Battlefront on May 3, 1915  during the second battle of Ypres, Belgium)  In Flanders fields the poppies blow  Between the crosses, row on row,  That mark our place: and in the sky  The larks still bravely singing fly  Scarce heard amid the guns below.  We are the dead: Short days ago,  We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,  Loved and were loved: and now we lie  In Flanders fields!  Take up our quarrel with the foe  To you, from failing hands, we throw  The torch: be yours to hold it high  If ye break faith with us who die,  We shall not sleep, though poppies grow  In Flanders fields. We rented an old home (~400 years old) on the grounds of an Italian villa in Pugliola, Italy (near Lerici as Mom identified on the tag on the back). It was once the living quarters for the servants and was called “Il Casalino”, or the little house. Mom and Dad came to visit us along with my Aunt Norma. Mom was fascinated by the hand-painted tiles on the floor in the living room. She took pictures, made sketches, and then created a beautiful hooked rug replica of that floor. My wife remembers that Mom hand-d

Visit our Blog to see the rugs showcased in the past.    Show & Tell / Memories #1 : Family Memories November is about Memories and a time of reflection, of capturing thoughts or feelings of the past, of wanting to keep something or someone close to the heart. Whether representing the daily life of our ancestors, capturing childhood memories, or creating an image of a special trip, each rug is hooked with feelings we want to portray and keep. Original Jacques Lepage The Old-timers Original 2015, 2016, and 2017 Each rug measures 15 x 24.5 inches I was inspired by a wooden sculpture, depicting the scene of life "way back when".
