Hooking Matters          BHCG was delighted to be featured in the May, 2021, issue of Hooking Matters , The International Guild of Handhooking Rugmakers’ newsletter. Our members were disappointed when the Triennial which would have taken place in Newfoundland had to be cancelled due to Covid. What a road trip that would have been!!! This might be a good time to consider joining TIGHR. 45th Anniversary

BHCG 45th Anniversary       Virtual Celebration    By Maria Romero, Webmaster    In 2020, the pandemic forced us to cancel our activities and Exhibition; the Guild decided to celebrate its 45th Anniversary strictly on-line, with a Virtual Celebration. Our on-line celebration began in February with a monthly schedule for our Show and Tell Page, featuring rugs from our last show held in September 2017, plus several Blog posts with special Show and Tells highlighting rugs from exhibitions prior to 2017. In both cases, a theme was chosen to present the pieces: florals, animals, geometrics, landscapes, to name a few. Snapshot of the pieces featured on Show&Tell from February 14th (Valentine's Day) until August 3rd (International Cat Day). Snapshot of the hooked pieces featured on Show and Tells from August 15th (Acadian Day) to December 31st, 2021. 45 Years    In September, we launched 45 Years as a temporary Website Section which is acc...

Conclusion of BHCG’s 45th Anniversary Celebrations    Matty - BHCG Virtual Celebrations*. Illustration: Maria Romero, 2021. Dear Beaconsfield Hooking Crafters Guild members, Friends and Followers, Our 45th Anniversary virtual celebrations have reached their completion with Gallery 6 and our Christmas and New Year’s wishes to you all. This celebration would not have been possible were it not for the exceptionally talented and prolific members of the Beaconsfield Hooking Crafters Guild. So many beautiful rugs and stories to admire. While a rug exhibition is admired for three days, our virtual celebration has carried us through four months of admiration! And what a better way to distract us from this difficult and challenging pandemic year. We are grateful to all our featured artists and their families who gathered the rug stories. Thank-you to the City of Beaconsfield, the West Island Blog, the Suburban, and the Montreal Gazette West Island Community Calendar for advertising our...

BHCG Virtual Celebration /  Gallery 6 Virtual Gallery  Virtual Gallery _ Gallery 6 / Christmas Challenge Gallery 6 / Christmas Challenge BHCG Members In this gallery you can tour a selection of Christmas Ornaments created by some members of the Guild. Christmas Challenge In late October, the web committee came up with the idea of a Christmas tree ornament challenge. The hope was that a common theme would motivate our members and also encourage them by knowing that their pieces would be published online. In the past the guild has been invited to decorate a small Christmas tree for the Beaconsfield library. This time our creative webmaster, Maria, designed an Advent calendar with the ornaments. Twelve members took part and here you can see their beautiful ornaments and the result of Maria’s magic touch. The pieces are shown in a special Christmas gallery which will close our virtual 45th Anniversary celebrations. Beaconsfield Hooking Crafters Guild sends out warm Season’s g...

BHCG Virtual Celebration /  Gallery 5 Virtual Gallery  Virtual Gallery _ Gallery 5 / Denise Vandenbemden Gallery 5 / Denise Vandenbemden In this Gallery, you can tour a selection of rugs from Denise Vandenbemden. Denise Vandenbemden Denise Vandenbemden Denise joined the BHCG in 2003. As soon as she signed up, she took a class with our teacher, Lois J. Morris, and I think every class thereafter. She found her niche with fine cut and rarely hooked anything higher than #4 cut. She is a very kind and generous lady. Every Thursday she opened her home to anyone who did not get enough hooking on Monday and this went on for years. She was always there to help new members and beginners. She became president in 2005 and remained in that role until 2011. She is our longest standing president, and this shows how much the Guild meant to her. She instigated the website and put us online making it so much easier to communicate from guild to guild. I dare say she put us on the map! We w...

These lovely Christmas pieces come with heartfelt stories. Many of the loops we pull are accompanied by joy and love and beauty, felt even years later. Mayumi Tsuji. Hello Cardinal. Adapted Mayumi Tsuji Hello Cardinal Adaptation of Christmas Card Illustration 2012 The story of my cardinal rug... I saw a red bird for the first time in Canada! I loved this bird that comes to visit in the garden every day, and I was very impressed when I saw it for the first time in the white snow scene. One year, I received a Christmas card showing a cardinal and I wanted to make it into a rug. It is not my own design, but I love it. Th...
