Celebrating Quebec's National Holiday at Centennial Park On Wednesday, June 24, members of the Beaconsfield Rug Crafters Guild took part in the St. Jean Baptiste festivities at Centennial Hall in Beaconsfield, joining many other local associations and community groups for a wonderful day of celebration. Emmy, Chris, Erin, Karen, Harold, Elizabeth, and Denise were on hand to showcase a selection of beautifully hooked rugs, demonstrate several rug hooking techniques, and represent our guild. Visitors were also invited to pick up a hook and hoop to try rug hooking for themselves—a hands-on experience enjoyed by many! Carolyn and Liz also stopped by for a visit. It was a wonderful day filled with beautiful weather, great company, live music, and entertaining strolling performers. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table to learn more about the art of rug hooking. We always enjoy sharing our passion with the community! Our volunteers who made our booth a success. Library Display to Promote our Rug Exhibition  September 28, 2025 Today, to promote our upcoming 50th Anniversary Rug Exhibition, we transformed the library entrance by arranging Dawna’s vibrant, autumn-inspired rugs and cheerful pumpkins alongside Fay’s hoop, plus a cutter, a hook, and a couple of informative library books on rug hooking—all displayed inside the glass cabinet to capture the attention of visitors as they arrive. We added a sign promoting our event, complete with dates and times, inviting everyone to discover our craft. Display case at the library entrance.

Beaconsfield Artisans’ Fair Saturday, September 20th 2025 Our booth at the Beaconsfield Artisans’ Fair was a tremendous success, thanks to the hard work of our talented creators and volunteers. Dawna’s Proddy handbags and baskets sold like hotcakes!  We welcomed a wonderful turnout from the community, with many unique handmade items finding new homes, and even attracting some people to sign up for our mug rug workshop to be held a week later.  Isabelle and Jacques put together a complete rug hooking kit along with a complimentary one-year membership for a raffle, which is ongoing until October 20, when the winner will be announced.  Our sale plus the raffle raised substantial funds to support our projects, and we are grateful for everyone’s enthusiastic participation. Fête nationale 2025

Image
Fête nationale du Québec in Centennial Park Centennial Park buzzed with excitement during the hottest day of the summer so far. The City’s event planners had the public’s comfort foremost in mind, providing a misting station, Freezies, and ice-cold wet towels to provide relief from the heat. The misting station – So refreshing! There were activities for all ages. Highlights included a petting zoo, a children’s hairdressing station run by theatre artists, a stage with live music, food trucks, and interactive displays at booths prepared by Beaconsfield’s Associations. Three children patiently await their hairdos at the Hair Dressing Station. At our booth, we displayed an assortment of hooked rugs, shared information about our craft, and engaged visitors to try their hand at rug hooking. Ready to greet the public. A live band set the afternoon’s rhythm against a backdrop of Fleurs-de-Lis flags, surrounded by food trucks and a variety of activities for children. One of our first visitors is MP Francis Scarpaleggia. BHCG volunteers and MP Francis Scarpaleggia . Photo courtesy of Elizabeth and Hugh. A live band draws an audience. Season 2023-2024

An Energetic Start to our New Hooking Season    Our new hooking season began September 11 with renewed excitement in the air! We are an enthusiastic group: many long-time members, plus many new faces too! Dawna Matthew’s beginners’ classes have welcomed 6 new members to our Guild. Furthermore, our April 2023 Rug Exhibition attracted several new members, as did meeting with the Beaconsfield Newcomers Club and participating in the September 23, 2023, Artisans’ Fair. A total of 14 new members! Six enthusiastic students in Dawna’s Beginners class. Claire, Laura, Isabelle, and Ti are preparing for the September 23 rd    Artisans’ Fair. September 25, we had a special visit from Judith Lilley, a talented rug hooker from Kamouraska, QC. Judy and Emmy have been emailing each other since 2017 but had never met in person. Judith brought numerous rugs to show, all original and stunning, and explained the stories behind their creations. She showed us Karen D. Miller’s “Eyes O...

Artisan's Fair

Beaconsfield Artisans’ Fair     Saturday, September 23, 2023 For the second year in a row, our guild participated in the popular Beaconsfield Artisans’ Fair. We had 2 booths – one provided by the City to promote our craft, and another provided by our guild to sell our members’ crafts to the public. Our booths were ideally located alongside our Centennial Park Poster Rug Exhibit, giving us the opportunity to encourage visitors to further tour our talented artists’ work.  Many thanks to Isabelle, Jacques, Claire, Chris, Leslie, Karen, and Harold for setting up, taking on the big task of vendor, for welcoming and providing information to the public, and for finally disassembling everything at the end of the day. Thank you also to our members and friends who contributed their beautiful crafts to fill the sales tables, and to those who dropped by to visit.  There were more than 50 booths to visit. Our two BHCG booths. Jacques and Laura wave hello! BHCG Artisans’ craf...
