Festive Hook-in

Image
Monday 15th December 2014 Xmas Luncheon 2014_ By Ti Seymour A jolly time was had by all who attended the Annual Festive Hook-in. Tables were lined with Crackers and Ferns. Festive Music was played throughout the morning, though probably not heard as the Auction got underway. Beautiful turned bases made by the West Island Woodturners were auctioned along with rug yarn and an unfinished birch rug. The raffle table and sale table were full, everyone left with something. The day ended after a show & tell. Linda henderson and Jacqueline Bouchard - Xmas 2014 *** Follow the link to see the Photo Album: 2014 Xmas Luncheon

"Jacobean Crewel" Course    By Lois Morris  On Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, Ti, Dawna, and Denise V. finished a course on “Jacobean Crewel” given by the guild founder and one of its teachers, Lois Morris.   The participants used authentic Jacobean Designs which they created themselves using patterns made available to them. The color swatches provided by Lois included  Blue, Red, Purple, Gold and Green. These represent the strong, but soft traditional Jacobean Colours. The participants mixed these colours in the Crewel Manner and learned a number of fancy stitches to emulate the look of crewel embroidery.  Notes were given on formulas both for the main colour swatches as well as for 3 accent colours they could dye themselves.  Choosing background colours and stitches as well as learning to correct mistakes are part of the process. Judging by the progress so far, beautiful works of art will be produced. Watch for them at our 40th anniversary show in Septem

International Hook-In Day     By Linda Henderson    The International Guild of Handhooking Rugmakers (TIGHR) invited rug hookers all over the world to join an international hook-in on Dec. 4, 2014.  BHCG joined in the fun by hooking at Plaza Pointe-Claire where people dropped by to admire our work and tell stories of their mothers who hooked long ago.  Some were fascinated enough to join our guild!   The International Guild of Handhooking Rugmakers Website: http://tighr.net/ Hooking at the Plaza Pointe-Claire Mall Sylvia's Rug (Work in Progress) Dawna's Christmas Tree

Xmas Themed Classes_3

Saturday 29th November – Christmas Themed Introduction to Rug Hooking Class On this last day of BHCG’s Christmas Themed series of Introductory Rug Hooking Classes at Le Coin Artisanal, I had the pleasure of meeting three new participants, one of whom became a member of the Guild at the start of the class and by the end of the class one more had decided to join. Ann, Gilda and Mary decided to hook mug rugs (coasters). Well done ladies, they all looked lovely. Michael, who was also attending the class, put the finishing touches to his mug rug. Wanda also paid a visit to show us her Christmas tree, amazing progress in just one week! Many thanks go to Cathy and Paola of Le Coin Artisanal who generously gave their energy to promoting the classes. At this time, a total of twelve people attended classes and three became members. Guild Saturday Workshops at Le Coin Artisanal By Linda Henderson The Saturday workshops at Le Coin Artisanal in Beaurepaire Village have proved very popular and have generated real excitement about rug hooking.  By making a "mug rug" or  Christmas tree or Christmas angel, participants completely new to rug hooking enjoy the satisfaction of learning a craft and completing a project in a single session. The first two workshops (Nov. 1st and 15th) were well attended by men, women and a child and we hope for similar interest in the last session on Nov. 29th. The guild has taken great pleasure in introducing others to this wonderful craft and appreciates the new memberships that these sessions have generated. Kudos to the organizers! Wide-Cut Workshop

Karen Kaiser Wide-Cut Workshop    By Linda Henderson Ti Seymour, Dawna Matthew and Linda Henderson travelled to Belleville, Ontario, enjoyed the hospitality of Karen and Kurt Kaiser and attended Karen's wide-cut workshop on Nov. 11, 2014.  We discovered the amazing versatility of half-inch strips of wool in creating both extraordinary works of art and functional mats.   With Karen's guidance, each of us has embarked on projects that are hooking up quickly and are a lot of fun.  The peaceful setting, the friendship enjoyed by the travelling companions and the newly acquired hooking skills all combined to make this trip a wonderful and therapeutic experience.   Karen Kaiser Website : //www.artworksbykarenkaiser.net/ Linda's Xmas gift for her niece  Dawna's Llama Dawna's Llama Ti's Christmas Fireplace rug Karen Kaiser teaching her last Wide - Cut Class
