BHCG 45th Anniversary       Virtual Celebration    By Maria Romero, Webmaster    In 2020, the pandemic forced us to cancel our activities and Exhibition; the Guild decided to celebrate its 45th Anniversary strictly on-line, with a Virtual Celebration. Our on-line celebration began in February with a monthly schedule for our Show and Tell Page, featuring rugs from our last show held in September 2017, plus several Blog posts with special Show and Tells highlighting rugs from exhibitions prior to 2017. In both cases, a theme was chosen to present the pieces: florals, animals, geometrics, landscapes, to name a few. Snapshot of the pieces featured on Show&Tell from February 14th (Valentine's Day) until August 3rd (International Cat Day). Snapshot of the hooked pieces featured on Show and Tells from August 15th (Acadian Day) to December 31st, 2021. 45 Years    In September, we launched 45 Years as a temporary Website Section which is accessible from the main menu, and consists of 4

Show & Tell / Valentine's Day

February 14th _   Special Show & Tell: Valentine's Day In line with our Show and Tell theme this month, Rug Hooking through the Generations , it was having received the gift of Carolyn’s grandmother Daisy and her great-great grandmother’s Inch rug that inspired Carolyn to carry on her family tradition. Here is her heart-warming rug and story. Heart and Stripes, a Linda MacDonald design hooked by Carolyn Ells. Carolyn Ells Hearts and Stripes 2005 Linda MacDonald design 12 in x 12 in #5 cut This is the first rug I hooked. I completed it in 2005. It is designed by the late Linda MacDonald and I bought it as a kit at her shop, Rags to Rugs in Pictou, Nova Scotia. I planned to teach myself rug hooking, but Linda knew of a teacher in Montreal. Soon I was taking an evening course from Judith Dallegret. Judith “upcycled” the natural wool in the beginner’s kit, by dyeing one portion a mottled pink (for the hearts) and the other a mottled turquoise (for the stripes).

Featured Rugs Gallery       In this Gallery, you can tour a selection of rugs from our last Exhibition, held in September 2017 at Centennial Hall. Visit our Blog to see the rugs showcased in the past.   Show & Tell : Rug Hooking through the Generations Many among us were first introduced to rug hooking by a family member from long ago. Grandmother’s homemade rugs adorned the ancestral home or cottage and were passed on to family members as loving reminders of our past. Carrying on the family tradition of rug making fills us with pride and inspiration and connects us to our roots. February is the month of love and affection, and a perfect time to introduce our new Show and Tell category. Inch Mat.  Hooked by Susan Locke and Daisy (Cameron) MacNab. Collection of Carolyn Ells.
