Quillie Xmas Trees

Image
Show & Share - Xmas _ By Dawna Matthew

On November 26, some guild members got in the Christmas mood and tried their hands at making quillie Christmas trees. Lots of sharing, laughter and a few slightly burned fingers! But what a variety of styles. This is a great way to use up scraps of wool that are too heavy for hooking. Thanks to our members who are also weavers for bringing in the cones we used as bases.

Hudson Craft Fair

Isabelle & Jacques at The Hudson Craft Fair _ Nov 24-25, 2019,
Stephen F. Shaar Community Center,
Hudson, Quebec

The Hudson Craft Fair is usually held on the last weekend in November, at the Stephen F. Shaar Community Centre, in Hudson Quebec. This event is a fundraiser for Le Nichoir, a bird conservation centre in Hudson. The market encourages local artisans  and features their handcrafted work. Approximately 22 vendors attend, with products that range from fiber arts, wooden articles, etc. to jewelry and gourmet products.

Isabelle Rollin and Jacques Lepage, two of our guild members, participate in this fair, vending their awsome assortment of handcrafted wooden articles, and have this to say: “The atmosphere is most cheerful and friendly, and we enjoy being part of this market. Looking forward to seeing you there. Thank you! Isabelle and Jacques”

Remembrance Day 2018

In Flanders Fieldsby Lt Col John McCrae
(Composed at the Battlefront  on May 3, 1915 during the second battle of Ypres, Belgium)

In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place: and in the sky The larks still bravely singing fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead: Short days ago, We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved: and now we lie In Flanders fields!
Take up our quarrel with the foe To you, from failing hands, we throw The torch: be yours to hold it high If ye break faith with us who die, We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.

On 2018 we celebrate: Canada's Hundred Days and the Armistice 100th anniversary (1918-2018)

Dye Workshop

Cold Water Dye Workshop _ With Colette Simon,
November 3rd at CRCS St Zotique.

By Dawna Matthew

8 of us had a great day of dyeing both wool and yarn under Colette’s relaxed and knowledgeable tutelage. Everyone got down and dirty quickly and we almost didn’t stop for lunch. We were thrilled with the results (one photo shows the display at the end of the day). It was easy, creative,  lots of fun and very versatile.  I really liked working with the wool yarn and it was so easy to control.
