Link: Quillie Christmas Trees Show & Share Dear members, Let us welcome this year with renewed hope and high spirit! May 2022 bring you much joy and fun and plenty of inspiration to fire up your creativity!  Our Show and Tell themes for this year are kindled by New Year’s resolutions and start with “Try something new”. We will resume our usual schedule of four Show and Tells per year. Since the summer, our members have enjoyed in-person hook-ins and things were starting to feel somewhat normal again. However, the pandemic has shown that we are on a very rocky, unpredictable road, and in-person hook-ins may or may not continue. Our love of rug hooking loops us together and creates a strong bond and our patience will help us through these challenges. May 2022 also bring you peace, love, and good health. We wish you and your dear

This fabulous three-dimensional Victorian-style Santa brings back the magic of an old-fashioned Christmas. It was a really fun project. I used pearls and a star to decorate the tree which Santa is holding, added a buckle for his belt, a stuffed toy and candy cane so they stick out of his backpack, and even added some eyelashes and a bow! He is three-dimensional and fits over

Christmas 2021

December 13, 2021       Christmas Hook-In      We had a wonderful time at our Christmas hook-in Monday. Christmas music, a sparkling tree, and decorations created the festive spirit. Rather than a gift exchange we had a cookie exchange. Bakers brought in 20 samples of their favourite recipe, and everyone went home with a cookie tin filled with 20 different, delicious treats!!! Beautiful door prizes, enough to go around for everyone. From left to right: Harold, Claire, Candace, Juliet, Fay Passing out the cookies! Yum!! Cookie tins overflow with such a variety of goodies! Emmy loves her new apron! Isabelle brought in her beautiful hand-painted Christmas ornaments and fridge/scissor magnets.  We have so many talented members! Our new member couple, Karen and Harold!

Candace Fradette Poppies Deanne Fitzpatrick pattern 2015 13” x 18” Wool jersey on linen backing I ordered this Deanne Fitzpatrick pattern by mail, and I purchased white wool jersey to use for hooking. I dyed all the jersey myself, so that means quite a few colours. It was my first time hooking with wool jersey and I found it very stretchy to work with.

Remembrance Day

November 11 - Remembrance Day             Today, we take two minutes of silence to reflect on the freedoms and peace we have in our lives. We honour, thank, and remember those who served and sacrificed their lives for us, and we acknowledge the courage of those who still serve .   In 2021 we commerate the 100th anniversary of the Remembrance Poppy in Canada. Illustration: Maria Romero. 100 years ago, the Poppy was adopted as a symbol of Remembrance and the funds collected from its distribution as a way to raise funds for Veterans’ needs. Show & Tell / Alice Hamilton

Alice Hamilton (1942-2021) In memory of Alice Hamilton (1942-2021)    By Debbie Séguin    The Guild was sad to hear of the passing of Alice Hamilton on October 23, 2021. Alice always had a smile on her face, made us laugh, and had a great sense of humour.  Alice was a fantastic rug hooker and artist. She had a good habit of writing down where the recycled wool came from. For example, the brown in the tree came from Jack’s daddy’s shirt, or from Janna’s mommy’s sweater. She was also a super “Dye Queen”. She gave me about 50 swatches of dyed wool on a ring with all the recipes attached. I still have it and will always cherish it. Alice was an enormous help to me personally dyeing the sky for a rug I was hooking for my mom. Alice and Betty came to my house, armed with the prepared squirt bottles filled with the dyes for the sky. We had a great day squirting out all the dyes onto the prepared wool laid out on the picnic table. I think it turned out awesome! My mom loved it! Alice’s generos

These two vintage Bluenose rugs look very different, but they are actually the same pattern and show a unique design element using woody branches rather than the usual green vines or scrolls.
