Xmas Hook-in!

A Festive Hook-in!

By Dawna Matthew

We celebrated the holidays at our last 2017 Hook-In on December 11th. Everyone was in a festive mood, gifts were exchanged and delicious goodies enjoyed. It was nice to see one of our new members, Ann, win a basket full of wool. This will help her stash grow!

Hooked Bags!

I received the beautiful red handle as a birthday gift from a dear friend and so it became my inspiration to hook a purse for it at a course I took in Ontario.

This bag is an original design. It is made out of a discarded cotton knit skirt cut in No. 8.

I have hooked the brown bag using a burlap bag I bought at Dollarama*, The stylized flower uses the different stitches learned in a workshop given by Lois Morris. New wool was used in  No. 3 and 6 cuts.

This purse was “made in a day” at a Green Mountain workshop in the fall 2016. It is perfect to use for errands when I take the car.  For the hooking I used new hand-dyed wool on monk’s cloth.

A hand quilted bed cover had been donated to the guild and it was raffled, raising over 100$, which was donated to the community centre.  There were door prizes, delicious soups and yummy desserts enjoyed by all.

It was a truly rewarding day to see so many out sharing, renewing old friendships, making new ones and simply hooking together in one big group! Thanks to everyone who helped and participated.

Doodle Bag - Claire Fradette

Doodle Bag Hooked By Claire Fradette

My little doodle bag is the result of a class I took in Ancaster, Ontario, given by Wendie Scott Davis. It was hooked with our stash of wool strips left over from other projects. Without the use of a pattern, we were given free rein and encouraged to “doodle”. My little bag is the perfect bag for my tablet.

Poppies, Hooked By Betty Austin

In Flanders Fields

by John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks. still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below

We are the dead. Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow.
Loved and were loved and now we lie
In Flanders fields

Take up your quarrel with the foe:
To you, from falling hands, we throw
The torch; be yours to hold high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

Educating About Craft

By Dawna Matthew

In the fall of 2017 Susan Feller posted an article titled “Educating About Craft” on her Blog
(ArtWools Studio of Susan L. Feller). In it she mentions two Quebec projects, one coordinated by Kathleen Menzies who is a member of Les Tapissiers de Saint-Henri and our project with Sherwood Forest Elementary School. This was a wonderful experience for not only the children but for all the members who participated. You can follow the link to see photos of all the happy faces!

Retour sur la guilde de tapis crochetés de Beaconsfield

Posted on 2 octobre 2017 by Pascal | Permalink
