Twist Festival

Twist Fibre Festival 2016 A Huge SuccessBy Candace Fradette

The Twist Fibre Festival held in Saint-André-Avelin was a huge success again this year with an estimated 20 000 attendees. Both the arena and the gym were overflowing!

Two of our members, Ti Seymour and Dawna Matthew participated in workshops, Madder Root Intensive, 20 Colours from One Dyepot and Traditional Ikat and Shibori Techniques for the Indigo Dyepot. Both workshops were taught by Jackie Ottino of in Maine.
The workshops were informative and fun! Participants came away with wonderful samples and heads brimming with plans for future projects.

A Rug Hooking workshop was held for the first time at Twist. Loretta Moore ran an day long intro class on the Friday. The venue was a barn and it seems Loretta had a little competition keeping her students attention when the various livestock poked their heads in to see what was happening!!

Our friend, Linda Desbiens, of L’Art des Fibres par Linda D. had a wonder…

Alpaca Ranch

Tuesday August 16 2016

By Louise G. de Tonnancour

It was a rainy day but that didn't stop Jacques, Isabelle, Carolyn, Ti (with her son James  and his friend Logan),  Terry and Louise from the BHCG to attend a hook-in at the L'OURSE QUI DANSE ALPACA RANCH in Godmanchester ( near Ormstown ).   Johanne and Guy the owners welcomed us on their land with open arms.  This visit also gave us the chance to meet other "ruggers" from the region who meet twice a month at the ranch.  All in all, it was a memorable day spent hooking  with old and new friends , visiting the alpacas in the fields and shopping for Johanne's  wool in the ranch boutique.

7th Annual Fiber Festival

What a fabulous day spent socializing with this amazing group of ladies.  Dawna Matthew, Louise G. de Tonnancour and Ti Seymour travelled across the border to be a part of the Fiber Festival.  Lynn Soule played an excellent host/MC for the day and “her people” rallied to provide delicious treats/lunch, tea cup auction, door prizes and live auction. Our Dawna was a lucky winner in the raffle and I may have brought home the Olympic Gold in the Auction.

The Fiber Festival also hosted an exhibition of members beautiful rugs for visitors to admire. Visitors included the general public who were welcome to wander the exhibited rugs and see the rugs being hooked inside. Our Sherwood Forest rug was also featured in the show.

Vendors included:

Deb Ennis: Roving, felting and wool
