Our BHCG website is 15 Years on the Net! 15 Years On The Web!. Illustration: Maria Romero. I really got to know Maria when working with her for our 45th anniversary celebrations, all done virtually on our website throughout 2020, with 85 posts exhibiting many of our Guild members’ talents. Maria is meticulous and has endless energy, enthusiasm, ideas, and creativity, not to mention a heart of gold! To mark our website’s 15 years on the Web, we would like to celebrate Maria, who dreamed it all and made it a reality.  With sincerity and respect, Emmy Maten /  President Meet Maria, our webmaster Maria’s story starts in Venezuela, her country of origin. She studied Visual Arts, earned a diploma, and taught Drawing and Art History to Graphic Design students at the University. In 2001, she emigrated to Canada, making Dorval her new home at the time. The Beaconsfield Hooking Crafters Guild was founded by Lois J. Morris in 1975 and has grown and flourished throughout the years. Many members started rug hooking because they remember their mother or grandmother, and in my case my grandfather, hooking rugs which welcomed people at the front door, adorned the floor at the wood stove, or assured warm feet at the bedside. Since those times, rugs now also decorate tables, walls, footstools, or become handbags, cushions, teapot cozies, 3-dimensional art, and the ideas keep coming! We welcome newcomers to this fibre art, just as we welcome experienced rug hookers. We meet on Mondays from September to May in the charming Centennial Hall in Beaconsfield, Quebec. Beaconsfield Hooking Crafters Guild Year-End Picnic and Hook-In Sunday, June 12th 2022 10 am to 3 pm At Centennial Hall We would have liked to return to having our Annual Picnic as in past years. Hopefully, next year things will all be back to normal, and we will have enough time to plan properly. So, this year our Picnic is a Year-End Hook-In. It will be a wonderful opportunity to see each other. Please bring: - your hooking - an item for show ‘n tell - a lawn chair - your lunch Several members have hooked some small pieces to raise money for Ukraine. Also, we will provide some delicious sweets with donations going to Ukraine. Coffee, tea & water will be available. Please RSVP to Emmy Maten.

May 2022 bring you much joy and fun and plenty of inspiration to fire up your creativity!  Our Show and Tell themes for this year are kindled by New Year’s resolutions and start with “Try something new”. We will resume our usual schedule of four Show and Tells per year. Since the summer, our members have enjoyed in-person hook-ins and things were starting to feel somewhat normal again. However, the pandemic has shown that we are on a very rocky, unpredictable road, and in-person hook-ins may or may not continue. November 11 - Remembrance Day             Today, we take two minutes of silence to reflect on the freedoms and peace we have in our lives. We honour, thank, and remember those who served and sacrificed their lives for us, and we acknowledge the courage of those who still serve .   In 2021 we commerate the 100th anniversary of the Remembrance Poppy in Canada. BHCG 45th Anniversary       Virtual Celebration    By Maria Romero, Webmaster    In 2020, the pandemic forced us to cancel our activities and Exhibition; the Guild decided to celebrate its 45th Anniversary strictly on-line, with a Virtual Celebration. Our on-line celebration began in February with a monthly schedule for our Show and Tell Page, featuring rugs from our last show held in September 2017, plus several Blog posts with special Show and Tells highlighting rugs from exhibitions prior to 2017. In both cases, a theme was chosen to present the pieces: florals, animals, geometrics, landscapes, to name a few. BHCG Virtual Celebration /  Gallery 6 Virtual Gallery  Virtual Gallery _ Gallery 6 / Christmas Challenge Gallery 6 / Christmas Challenge BHCG Members In this gallery you can tour a selection of Christmas Ornaments created by some members of the Guild. Christmas Challenge In late October, the web committee came up with the idea of a Christmas tree ornament challenge. The hope was that a common theme would motivate our members and also encourage them by knowing that their pieces would be published online. In the past the guild has been invited to decorate a small Christmas tree for the Beaconsfield library. This time our creative webmaster, Maria, designed an Advent calendar with the ornaments. Twelve members took part and here you can see their beautiful ornaments and the result of Maria’s magic touch.
