Virtual Celebration

In 2020, the pandemic forced us to cancel our activities and Exhibition; the Guild decided to celebrate its 45th Anniversary strictly on-line, with a Virtual Celebration.

Our on-line celebration began in February with a monthly schedule for our Show and Tell Page, featuring rugs from our last show held in September 2017, plus several Blog posts with special Show and Tells highlighting rugs from exhibitions prior to 2017. In both cases, a theme was chosen to present the pieces: florals, animals, geometrics, landscapes, to name a few.

45 Years   


In September, we launched 45 Years as a temporary Website Section which is accessible from the main menu, and consists of 4 pages:

- 45 Years Page, which includes the celebration's program schedule, a message from the executive, a message from the Web Committee and the 45th Anniversary Logo.

- Photo Album, portraying memorable pictures and newspaper articles.

- Guestbook, where visitors are invited to share a message.

- Virtual Gallery, a page connected to 6 sub-pages or Galleries.

The 45 Years Page contains the celebration's program, special messages and the 45th Anniversary Logo.


 As usual, a Logo was created to be used during our aniversary celebrations, as well as some
special illustrations for April Fool's Day, Thanksgiving, Halloween, and Christmas.

Virtual Gallery

The Virtual Gallery is a New and Special Web Project, conceived for our 45th Anniversary, as a tribute to our Founder, Teachers, and some of the Past-Presidents still members of the Guild or related to the Guild until very recently. The period was from 1975 until 2008, taking into consideration that 2008 was the first year we promoted our activities on Internet.

The Galleries 1 to 5 were launched one by one from September through December, featuring a long-time
Guild member along with some of their hooked pieces. To close the celebrations, the Web committee came
up with the idea of a Christmas Tree Ornament Challenge, open to Guild members, featured in Gallery 6.

Outdoor Poster Exhibit    July 22, the City of Beaconsfield’s “Happy Hour by the Water” event marked the official opening of our outdoor poster exhibit. Almost 900 people showed up for the concert and also viewed the poster display. Julie Poirier-Monette, co-ordinator for Beaconsfield’s cultural life, announced the poster exhibit to the public and read out a heartfelt message from our Guild thanking the City for creating this beautiful poster display of our work and inviting those drawn to our craft to visit our website and Facebook page and join us in September for Monday meetings.   Panels 1 and 2. As one tours the exhibit, the first poster describes our Guild and its history, and shows our Centennial Hall Tile rug, which is currently hanging in the Beaconsfield Library. Rug Hooking Tour

Trip to Nova Scotia   By: Dawna Matthew While attending Green Mountain Rug School this past June I was invited and encouraged to take part in a weeklong “Rug Hooking Tour of Nova Scotia” organized by Lynn Soule of The Champlain Islands Fiber Bees. And what an amazing adventure it turned out to be! From September 12 to 18 I joined 62 other hookers on a huge bus that departed from Vermont and headed off to Nova Scotia. Champlain Island Fiber Bees Our first stop was Searsport Rug Hooking in Verona, Maine, then on to the lovely Algonquin Resort in St Andrews, NB. Next day we hit Deanne Fitzpatrick’s studio in Amhurst, NS. Deanne opened her studio on a Sunday especially for us and did we have fun! We shopped and no one dropped!! 200 Cushions

The Cushion Project: Barachois Historic Church_ Grand Barachois, New Brunswick, By Emmy Maten 200 Hooked Cushions for my 200th Logo The Barachois Historic Church, now a local museum, art gallery, and summer concert venue, commences its 200th year celebrations with “ 200 Hooked Cushions for my 200th ”. The cushions will be permanently exhibited on the old wooden church pews. The opening exhibition of these donated hooked cushions will be held August 18, during the 2019 World Acadian National Congress. An exposition catalogue will be produced to include photos of the cushions and information about the artisans, their creation, as well as technical details. Rug Hooking Designs

Shelly Atkinson  is a self-taught visual artist and crafter from Nova-Scotia, Canada. She loves experimenting with styles, colours, textures and techniques in her paintings and illustrations. Shelly offers rug hooking patterns of animals, flowers, people, the four seasons, etc. She can create custom drawings of your pet or family and even revise her patterns, if requested. Picnic

Our Annual Picnic        June 12, 2022          Our first return to our annual picnic since 2019 was small-scale but appreciated by all. Members from several nearby Guilds joined us. We were spared the rain of some surrounding areas as the sun shone down on us! A beautiful setting to hook with friends Everyone was very generous towards our fund-raising for the Red Cross Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. There were door prizes for everyone.
