March 7th _

Special Show & Tell: Maud Lewis

Maud Lewis (1903-1970), renowned Canadian folk artist, was born March 7 in South Ohio, Nova Scotia. Maud Lewis’s artwork lends itself to rug hooking as her colours are bright, she uses little shading if any, and the scenes are lively, reflecting life outdoors as she saw it in her south west corner of Nova Scotia.

In July of 2015, Candace and I went to Halifax, Nova Scotia to participate in a Maud Lewis Workshop organized by the Rug Hooking Museum of North America. This fun and interesting course was given by Doug Rankin. I hooked my rug according to the pattern. Some of the wool I had brought with me, while some of the greens and blues I bought at the class.
