Show & Tell : Landscapes #1

Hooked rugs depicting landscapes are so varied in the way different people see the wonderful outdoor world. Each of us has our own style, our own creative use of colour and hooking techniques. Here you will enjoy landscapes hooked by some of our members. And if you are intrigued, you can see more of our landscapes by visiting our 2017 exhibition Show & Tells which featured “Covered Bridges”. Follow the links:

Denise Morissette
Way of Santiago de Compostela
Original
2017
18 x 22 inches
I made this trip some years ago when I reached 60 years; I am now 80 years old. A friend and I walked the Camino de Santiago de Compostela together. I used a few pictures I took to reproduce the image I hooked. I used #6 cut wool for most of the rug, with some #3 cut for the details.

Teacher and pattern: Molly Colgrove
I hooked this while taking a workshop at Green Mountain Rug Hooking Guild. This project was fun to work and includes lots of alternate fibres.

“Nova Scotia Rest Stop”
2015
12 x 12 inches

Adapted from a photo I took while on the “Nova Scotia Wooled Tour”, with a bus full of fellow hookers from the New England States in September 2015. Lynn Soule, who organized the tour, put out a challenge to hook a small piece representing a memory of the trip.

Lac des-Seize-Iles, a  poster by painter by Claude Pariseau hooked by Brenda Ticheurst

Brenda Ticehurst
Lac-des-seize-iles
2014
30 x 22 inches

Originally Claude Pariseau did an oil painting of Lac des-Seize-Iles. Later he produced a more stylized poster showing the highlights of the village with a boathouse, sail boat, mountains, and church.  The poster is used annually to advertise the summer Artisan Show at the Lac-des-Seize-ÃŽles City Hall near our country house in the Laurentians. With his permission l made a hooked rug of the poster which was shown and admired at the show. The Mayor talked about buying it for the City Hall, and I was flattered, even though plans did not really materialize.
