SLC Dye Class Intermediate Rug Hooking Brockville, July 23rd to 27th, 2018   By Dawna Matthew What a fun time with a lively and lovely group of fellow hookers at St Lawrence College, Brockville Campus. Laura Boszormeny was our instructor and led us through the many different and fascinating techniques for dyeing wool. We dabbled in the dye pots and although there was much giggling and chatting Laura managed to keep us on track. Laura generously shared her vast knowledge and experience and we all came away with many new skills and a necklace full of samples. This week long July class was part of the St Lawrence College certificate in Traditional Rug Hooking. The 150th Anniversary of Canada    Show & Tell : Covered Bridges!    Dawna Matthew's Rugs From the middle 1800’s to the middle 2000’s over 1000 to 1200 covered bridges were built in Quebec alone, and, of these, 82 were still in existence in 2012. (Certain sources claim 100). These structures were erected to facilitate the transport of timber across watercourses, replacing the early primitive bridges made out of exposed wooden boards, which, unprotected from the elements, were rotting quickly and were hazardous for the users. Covering the bridge with a roof meant a longer lifespan for the bridge and   protection for the horses and pedestrians. Over the years, many of these bridges were restored and are still in use today for pedestrians and cyclists.  Pont St Columban - Hooked By Dawna Matthew Pont St Columban  Hooked by Dawna Matthew This covered bridge was built in 1937 but unfortunately burned down in 1974. Fond Memories of Ontario Waterways Annual 2018_ 2018 OHCG Annual  “Hooked on Waterways”  Ottawa, May 4-6, 2018  Ottawa Convention Centre  55 Colonel By Drive  Ottawa ON, K1N 9J2  Submitted by Ti Seymour & Claire Fradette  Nothing gets you in the mood to get creative, than a challenge from a friend.  So when Claire Fradette sent me a photo of her frog on a lily pad looking for love, I knew I had to help.  I whipped up another Lily Pad with a Remax sign and Claire got right on the job of making a lady frog to accompany it.  This was all in aid of the Olde Forge Rug Hookers call for hooked items for table decorations at the gala.  We wonder where this cute pair settled in the end. Hook-In With A Guest

Image
A Guest from Massachusetts Well, isn’t the internet, especially our Website, wonderful! The Guild received an email from a gentleman in Sweden, saying that his mother-in-law, Phyllis Poor, who is an avid hooker, recently moved to Massachusetts, but is currently visiting Montreal. He wondered if she’d be welcome to visit our Monday hook-in. I assured him that we would love to have her join us. And so on April 30 Phyllis came to Beaconsfield to hook with us. Naturally we had a show and tell so she could see all the different and diverse pieces our talented members are working on. And I know Phyllis had a wonderful time!
