It was such a privilege to welcome family and friends together to mark this incredible milestone – a half century dedicated to the celebration and advancement of rug hooking in our community, our guild started 50 years ago by Lois J Morris.
First and foremost, our thanks went to Geneviève Dubé, Animator for Culture & Leisure, Julie Poirier-Monette, Animator for Cultural Life, and the City of Beaconsfield for the incredible opportunity to meet weekly in beautiful Centennial Hall throughout these years, and for their continuous support and opportunities to engage with the public.
Next, I extended my deepest gratitude to the talented team who made this evening – and indeed the entire exhibition – possible. To our dedicated planners, volunteers, and installation crew: your passion, late nights or early mornings, and unwavering commitment changed ideas into reality.
Our guild is especially grateful to Isabelle and Jacques who truly had a vision of transforming the space for this exhibition. With meticulous measurements and calculations, they managed to double the display area while maintaining a sense of spaciousness and harmony. A special mention goes to Chris for making over 250 show labels in record time.
Thank you to Leslie and Sue for the beautiful display of our 50 mini rugs for our 50th anniversary, the original idea launched by Mary last year.
And to the Vernissage committee for the tasty wine and cheese reception. And thank you to Malcolm, Dawna’s husband, for his role as bartender.
It was also an honour to work alongside my fellow Card Committee members—Isabelle, Elizabeth, Joanne, and Chris—on the creation of our 2025 note card collection. We met weekly throughout the summer and thoughtfully crafted a collection from the professional photographs taken in June. The enthusiasm and dedication shown by everyone made this project truly special. Particular thanks were given to Hugh, Elizabeth’s husband, for ensuring each photograph was print-ready and for overseeing the production process.
I am deeply grateful to have shared this memorable experience with all our guild members.
Congratulations to our artists, novel and well-established, whose talent and courage enrich our lives and inspire others. Let’s look forward with excitement to the next fifty years of continuing to foster creativity.
Sincerely,
Emmy
