Monday November 21 Hook-In Pinecone workshop The Festive Season has arrived! There was an enthusiastic response to Claire’s idea of a pinecone workshop, the instructions for which appear in the November-December 2022 issue of Rug Hooking magazine. Participants were delighted to each receive a kit, instructions included, carefully prepared by Claire. We simply had to bring glue or a glue gun, sharp scissors, and $5 to cover supplies. Those who had time also made some lavender branches, created in a similar fashion. Wool fabrics were donated by Kitt, Claire, and Dawna. Monday Hook-In, October 31st 2022   Halloween 2022        Our Halloween Hook-In had us all in creative costumes from traditional witches to unique Steampunk garb! We also had a paper bag auction featuring some 55 items plus 12 boxes of wool yarns in every colour imaginable. We raised enough money to make donations to both NOVA and to a West Island food bank. Sue made a fabulous chocolate cake to celebrate all birthdays since June. And Chris brought delicious Halloween cookies. Kudos to all who made this possible. Happy Halloween Hookers. Juliet and Fay. BHCG Participates in the Beaconsfield Artisans’ Fair     By Chris Delaney    On Saturday, September 24th, the Beaconsfield Hooking Crafters Guild was represented at the Artisans’ Fair held on the grounds of Centennial Hall. Mary was there with a variety of things to sell in her continued fundraising efforts for the Ukraine. Her scarves were a big hit. Claire also brought along some wonderful crafts including her fab brooches, slippers, and small baskets. Kitt dropped by with her material pumpkins. Helen and Chris brought rugs and though many did not sell, there was much interest in the guild and the art of rug hooking and punch needle. Perhaps some will even visit us on a Monday. Others in the guild dropped by to enjoy the beautiful day. We saw Maureen, Lin, Barbara, and Leslie, and Debbie also came by to help us pass the time. It was a wonderful day spent in good company. Chris and Helen converse with visitors. Mary continues to crochet her fundraiser scarves. ...

A visit to the Roxham Woolgathering    After a couple of cancelled years, the Roxham Woolgathering was back last weekend, this time at a new location, the Pinehill Sheep farm in Hemmingford. (They have a few llamas too!) It was a delightful outing, and the weather was perfect both days. Numerous BHCG members visited throughout the weekend. A few sheep seen outside the barn. Set up under a canopy of trees, each booth presented unique and beautiful crafts done by local artists. This was Isabelle and Jacques’ first time as vendors and their booth was very popular. It was also nice to see Jane and Mary from Martintown Wild and Woollys with their lovely hooked, felted, and quilted crafts. Jane and Mary’s booth is seen here on this welcoming veranda. The Beaconsfield Hooking Crafters Guild was founded by Lois J. Morris in 1975 and has grown and flourished throughout the years. Many members started rug hooking because they remember their mother or grandmother, and in my case my grandfather, hooking rugs which welcomed people at the front door, adorned the floor at the wood stove, or assured warm feet at the bedside. Since those times, rugs now also decorate tables, walls, footstools, or become handbags, cushions, teapot cozies, 3-dimensional art, and the ideas keep coming! We welcome newcomers to this fibre art, just as we welcome experienced rug hookers. We meet on Mondays from September to May in the charming Centennial Hall in Beaconsfield, Quebec. Graduation Exhibition     By Ti Seymour    July 7, 2022    Dawna Matthew, Candace Fradette and myself have been undertaking courses at St Lawrence College, Brockville, Ontario to complete a Fibre Art Diploma specializing in Traditional Rug Hooking.  Sadly, this Diploma is not being offered again as our teacher Laura Boszormeny has now retired.  As part of our final class, we had to participate, circulate, and demonstrate our knowledge of our craft at an Exhibition run during the final class.  To prepare for this exhibition we had to produce a variety of rugs that showcased a variety of rug hooking styles and finishes.  We circulated a poster in the college, posted advertising on Facebook and invited our friends and family.  In total over 50 people wrote in our visitors’ book and we thank everyone who came along. Demonstration      By Dawna Matthew   Friday, June 24, 2022 saw the guild participating in Beaconsfield’s Fête nationale celebration on the grounds of Centennial Hall. The city of Beaconsfield is very generous to our guild, offering the use of Centennial Hall for our various functions so we are always happy to give back to the community whenever possible. It was a wonderful day and thanks to all who came out to lend a hand.   We couldn't have asked for better weather and look at that view behind our booth. Save the day!    By Dawna Matthew    As many of you are aware, Candace, Ti and myself have been following the St Lawrence College program which offers a Certificate in traditional rug hooking. We attend our final course next the first week in July and part of the curriculum involves holding a show or display and we’d love for you to attend! We realize this is quite far to travel but some of you may be in the area on holiday or visiting friends. Graduating Students Show Invitation

Our Annual Picnic        June 12, 2022          Our first return to our annual picnic since 2019 was small-scale but appreciated by all. Members from several nearby Guilds joined us. We were spared the rain of some surrounding areas as the sun shone down on us! A beautiful setting to hook with friends Everyone was very generous towards our fund-raising for the Red Cross Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. There were door prizes for everyone.
