Fête St. Jean at Centennial Park in Beaconsfield June 24, 2019_ By Emmy Maten Heather, Jane, Isabelle, Candace, Emmy and Debbie La Fête Nationale in Beaconsfield was celebrated in Centennial Park with many family activities offered. As in previous years, our Guild had a kiosk to promote the art of rug hooking. We had fabulous weather and a big turnout from the public. Several of our Guild members and Jane from the Martintown Wild and Woolly Rug Hookers donated their time and rugs to make an outstanding rug display and welcome the public. We demonstrated, explained, answered questions and referred potential new rug-hookers to our Guild. Many keen individuals tried rug hooking themselves, with our guidance, using the two demonstration pieces on hoops. We even sold 2 kits and several cards. Grandfather's Fox by Isabelle Rollin  Grandfather's Fox by Isabelle Rollin My first rug was inspired by my Mother who told me that her Father had designed and maybe even hooked a rug with a fox and flowers. Together, my Mom and I spent many precious moments trying to recreate this design. This has a great deal of 'doing and undoing' as I was learning to hook. Rug Hooking at the Ormstown Fair – a First!_ By Emmy Maten June 6-9, 2019 Desjardins Expo Ormstown 2019  The Rug Hooking Event at opening night of the Ormstown Fair captured a lot of attention from the public, as many had never seen this art before. Our own Charlene was in the Parade playing the bag pipes! Charlene was in the Parade! It was the first time that rug hooking was an official event at the Fair and two rugs of our members, Jacques and Isabelle, tied for the 1st place award and another of Jacques’ was awarded 2nd place. Jacques' Logger tied for 1st Place Isabelle's Grandfather's Fox Rug Tied for 1st Place! Jacques' Snowshoes was awarded 2 nd  Place Heather Wright from the Hemmingford Rug Hookers (and North Hero) was awarded 3rd place with her rug. June 8th 2019, 2019 Annual Picnic:  What an amazing day we had!_ By Dawna Matthew 2019 Annual Picnic What an amazing day we had! We welcomed 42 guests and 32 BHCG members for a total of 74! The largest group we have ever had! And the weatherman was definitely on our side!! Thank you to all who helped with set up and take down and that includes the strong husbands who lugged around all those tables, chairs and tents! To all who contributed to the delicious food, to those who donated to the door prizes and auctions and to our vendors for coming and offering their wonderful wares! Thank You to all our fellow rug hookers who travelled from far and wide to join in the fun and share their love of our wonderful art. Most of all, Thank You, to all our members who pulled together to make this day such a success. What a team!!!

Saint-Henri Rug Hookers Show_ Mai 9th-12th, 2019 By Christina Delaney Tapissiers Saint-Henri Rug Hookers held their bi-annual rug hooking show this year May 9th through the 12th at a new venue. The show was held at a small atelier and art gallery in NDG called Atelier Meteque. The gallery is located on Cote St Luc road close to Girouard. The walls were covered in rugs!  St Henri reports the show was well attended not only by friends and family, but the community as well. Some BHCG members are also part of Saint-Henri!  Carolyn Mungall, Joanne Touchette, Colette Simon, Lin Watson and myself, Christina Delaney, belong to both guilds and so happy we do! All had rugs in the show.  Several BHCG members attended the vernissage on Thursday evening and others went on the weekend.   Congratulations Saint-Henri ! BHCG 2019 Annual Picnic Beaconsfield Hooking Crafters Guild is happy to invite you to our 2019 Annual Picnic: Saturday, June 8th, from 10 AM to 3PM, at Centennial Hall, 288 Beaconsfield Blv, Beaconsfield, Qc, H9W 4A7 Please bring : your hooking; an item for show and tell; a lawn chair, if you have room in your car and if the weather is nice; your name tag, if you still have it, bit we will have some on hand. Vendors: Judith Dallegret , with her wonderful wool, Linda Desbiens , with her lovely sari silk ribbon and roving, Isabelle Rollin  wit her beautiful handmade wooden item and patterns, Jacques Lepage with his rug hooking frames and stands, along with his gripper frames for punch needle. Birds of a Feather themed rug exhibition_ By Dawna Matthew BHCG Display April 12th – 14th was the OHCG Annual held in London, Ontario. Our guild had a beautiful display with 38 rugs/pieces. In all 774 rugs/pieces were in the exhibition and there were 170 registered participants for the 3 day event. Workshops were offered on all 3 days and Sunday it was opened to the public. Thank you to everyone who sent a rug representing Beaconsfield and also thank you to those who travelled all the way to London for the event. Mary's "Bird day" cake!!

Congratulations Ti and Dawna!_ OHCG Teacher Certification 2019 At the OHCG Annual General Meeting, on Saturday, two of our members, Ti Seymour and Dawna Matthew, along with 8 others, received their OHCG Teacher Certification.

Punch Needle Rug Hooking Day_ By Dawna Matthew April 13 was Punch Needle Rug Hooking Day and even though we were away in London, Ontario, for the OHCG Annual we managed to get some punching done. Thank you to Christie Beniston for providing the sweet little Busy Bee pattern. Candace, Claire, Dawna, Ti and our friend Iris Simpson joined in the punching fun.

The Cushion Project: Barachois Historic Church_ Grand Barachois, New Brunswick, By Emmy Maten 200 Hooked Cushions for my 200th Logo The Barachois Historic Church, now a local museum, art gallery, and summer concert venue, commences its 200th year celebrations with “ 200 Hooked Cushions for my 200th ”. The cushions will be permanently exhibited on the old wooden church pews. The opening exhibition of these donated hooked cushions will be held August 18, during the 2019 World Acadian National Congress. An exposition catalogue will be produced to include photos of the cushions and information about the artisans, their creation, as well as technical details.
