Annual General Meeting 2024   

Our AGM was held May 6 with in-person attendance plus a few proxy votes reaching 67 % of our membership.

The president’s report covered the year’s events which included our April 29th, 2023 Rug Exhibition, the presentation of our Centennial Tile rug to Mayor Bourelle and the City of Beaconsfield, our participation in the City’s annual St. Jean Baptiste Day celebration (in the Recreation Centre due to rain) and the September Artisans’ Fair. Our Outdoor Poster Exhibit created by the City was officially opened on July 22nd in Centennial Park and stayed up until the fall.

In September Dawna started Beginners’ classes of 6 students who all became new members. In early January M. organized a 3-day workshop called “Tiny Treasures” given by Sara Judith.

Throughout the year, we enjoyed many events: our annual picnic, paper bag auctions, Sell or Swap, International Rug Hooking Day, and numerous themed hook-ins. There was never a dull moment!

The Treasurer’s and Librarian’s reports were presented, and the election of the executive was held. All motions passed. The executive committee remains the same as last year.

Outdoor Poster Exhibit    July 22, the City of Beaconsfield’s “Happy Hour by the Water” event marked the official opening of our outdoor poster exhibit. Almost 900 people showed up for the concert and also viewed the poster display. Julie Poirier-Monette, co-ordinator for Beaconsfield’s cultural life, announced the poster exhibit to the public and read out a heartfelt message from our Guild thanking the City for creating this beautiful poster display of our work and inviting those drawn to our craft to visit our website and Facebook page and join us in September for Monday meetings.   Panels 1 and 2. As one tours the exhibit, the first poster describes our Guild and its history, and shows our Centennial Hall Tile rug, which is currently hanging in the Beaconsfield Library. Shelly Atkinson  is a self-taught visual artist and crafter from Nova-Scotia, Canada. She loves experimenting with styles, colours, textures and techniques in her paintings and illustrations. February 12, 2024. Red Day Valentine’s Day - a day to celebrate love of all kinds! For us today, we celebrated the love of our craft and our community, and we each wore something red to prove it. Our Sell and Swap sale drew in some members we had not seen for a while, which is always a treat, as friendships grow deep over the years. Standing: Brenda, Judith, Claire, Kitt. Marianick & Gaétan / In The News

Jeu de mémoire / Exhibition     Marianick Viatour and Gaétan Berthiaume are visual artists specialising in wood sculpture. They joined our Beaconsfield Hooking Crafters Guild in September 2023, after having visited our rug exhibition in April 2023. They are having a vernissage and exhibition in Gatineau from Wednesday, January 31 through March 28. 12 sculptures will be presented, including one hooked piece, along with a short film of 28 minutes. Picnic

BHCG’s Annual Picnic  By Dawna Matthew June 8, 2024 Our picnic was a great success again this year! We had over 60 attendees along with some helpful partners who gave a hand with the set up and take down. It was wonderful to see so many friends from neighbouring groups and inspiring to see their projects during Show and Tell. We had guests from North Hero Fiber Bees, Martintown’s Wild and Woollys, the Brome County Rug Hookers, the Ormstown group, Ottawa’s Old Forge, Track 2 and St Henri along with our own BHCG members. What a great turnout. The welcoming grounds of Centennial Hall. Our lovely greeters!    Some Martintown friends amongst the many who enjoyed this annual gathering.  We were nervous about the weather, but the rain held off and everyone was fine under pop-up tents kindly supplied by several members.
