Rug Hooking Adventures in Île d’Orléans, Quebec
By Linda Watson
I was fortunate to visit Ile d’Orléans for “Les Journées de la Culture” (Culture Days) this fall and to contribute to the artisan demonstrations there.
Françoise Vézina-Gagnon, a well-known and much-praised rug hooking artisan of
Île d’Orléans continues to promote rug hooking in Sainte-Famille, an exceptionally beautiful area. She animated Culture Day on September 27, 2015 in an ancient French-Canadian building - Maison de nos Aïeux, located in Sainte-Famille. The day was a great success with local and tourist interest in rug hooking demonstrations.
Françoise specializes in local scenes and hooked a fabulous rug of a roadside church which she donated towards fund-raising for the maintenance of the historic church of Sainte-Famille. Raffle tickets are on sale until December 2015. Contact Francoise at
