Featured Rugs Gallery  In this Gallery, you can tour a selection of rugs from our last Exhibition, held in April 2023 at Centennial Hall. Explore our Blog to see the rugs showcased in the past. Oriental Rugs 2 Oriental rugs speak of ancient cultures and intricate handiwork. Their distinctive patterns and rich colours add a timeless element to any setting. Rug designs are usually rectilinear (geometric) or curvilinear (floral) and are sometimes a combination of both. They frequently have a medallion design in the centre. “More than Just Rugs” exhibition October 1, 2024 From left to right:  Laura, Marie-Annick, Emmy, Chris, Leslie, Gaétan. We invite you to visit the Discovery Room of the Beaconsfield Library to enjoy our “More than Just Rugs” rug hooking exhibition from October 1st to 30th! At the entrance to the library on the right, you will be greeted by a glass cabinet showcasing several unique and delightful 3-dimensional pieces hooked by Karen and M. Once inside the Discovery Room, almost 50 more pieces hooked by 21 of our members are beautifully exhibited on the three walls and inside the two glass cabinets. With boundless imagination these artists have transformed simple fibres into captivating works of art. Many thanks to all who contributed their hooked pieces and to Marie-Annick, Gaétan, Chris, Laura, and Leslie for much time and expertise spent setting all in place. Bravo!

Visit to the Brome County Hookers September 15, 2024 Our friends, the Brome County Hookers, held a rug exhibit on Sunday, September 15, in the charming town of Stanbridge East near Brome Lake. Their rug hooking group started in 2010 and has been growing since. They held their first rug show at the well-known Brome County Fair. Today’s rug exhibition was held in the beautiful, almost 200-year-old Gothic-style St James the Apostle Church, which was restored in 2010. So many rugs to see in this small church . Susan Baker is the driving force behind this talented group of rug hookers. Susan has won several times with her entries in Rug Hooking Magazine’s Celebration contest. There is always a keen and helpful husband in every group; Susan’s husband built the wooden framework to hang the rugs. North Hero Fiber Fest 2024 By Laura D. On the 10th of August, I had the pleasure of driving down to North Hero, Vermont, as did some other members of our Guild to attend the Annual Fiber Fest, hosted by the Champlain Islands Fiber Bees. I was pretty excited since I had never participated before, and I was not disappointed! The ladies there were really welcoming, and they organized a teacup auction, a silent auction, and door prizes with everything from wool bundles, baskets, rug wool hooking tools, punch needle sets, books and much more. In the large, packed room almost everyone was working on very special rug hooking projects. “Fluff and Peachy Bean Designs” and “Judith Hotchkiss Designs and Dyeworks” were the two vendors present for the occasion and they had quite a stash of colourful wool, hooks, punch needle yarn, kits, and patterns for sale! In memory of Nancy (Farnam) Thompson (1947 - 2024)  Respectfully submitted by Emmy Maten Nancy Thompson (1947-2024) The guild was saddened to learn of the recent loss of Nancy Thompson, member of our guild since the early 2000’s. Our guild member Cathy was a good sailing friend of Nancy’s and introduced Nancy to rug hooking and the Beaconsfield guild. Judith became her rug hooking teacher and helped her with most of her rugs. Nancy is remembered as generous, caring, giving, discreet, upbeat and happy. She had a good sense of humour. From 2019 to 2022, Nancy was an excellent secretary for the Beaconsfield Guild. Yet she preferred rug hooking to naming and dating her rugs; In her daughter Katie’s words “she would tell you that the rugs were finished long after they were started”. Summer - Canadiana    July 1st brings us Canada Day, a time to celebrate our country, leading to our summer Show and Tell theme, Canadiana. The essence of this nation's greatness lies in its uniquely Canadian lakes and forests, with the Jack Pine holding an iconic status. Tom Thomson, one of Canada’s most influential painters of the early 20 th century, used brush strokes in a way which can inspire a rug hooker to “paint” with wool. Fête nationale  celebrations in Centennial Park June 24, 2024 The weather added a dramatic touch to the City of Beaconsfield’s Fête nationale celebrations in Centennial Park transforming the mood from chilly to cheerful as the sun broke open the clouds and marked the end to a rainy weekend. A live band set the afternoon’s rhythm against a backdrop of Fleurs-de-Lis flags, surrounded by food trucks and a variety of activities for children. A Steam Punk theatre artist is an attraction for children and adults alike.
