Summer - Canadiana   

July 1st brings us Canada Day, a time to celebrate our country, leading to our summer Show and Tell theme, Canadiana.

The essence of this nation's greatness lies in its uniquely Canadian lakes and forests, with the Jack Pine holding an iconic status.

Tom Thomson, one of Canada’s most influential painters of the early 20th century, used brush strokes in a way which can inspire a rug hooker to “paint” with wool. Willow Creek Rug Hooking offered Tom Thompson patterns, which motivated three of our members.

“The Tom Thomson’s Jack Pine course with Carol Shewan inspired me to attempt another Thomson in another season. This rug was adapted from a black line drawing from a colouring book of Tom Thomson’s works. His paintings are in the public domain. I simplified the drawing for rug hooking”.

Outdoor Poster Exhibit    July 22, the City of Beaconsfield’s “Happy Hour by the Water” event marked the official opening of our outdoor poster exhibit. Almost 900 people showed up for the concert and also viewed the poster display. Julie Poirier-Monette, co-ordinator for Beaconsfield’s cultural life, announced the poster exhibit to the public and read out a heartfelt message from our Guild thanking the City for creating this beautiful poster display of our work and inviting those drawn to our craft to visit our website and Facebook page and join us in September for Monday meetings.   Panels 1 and 2. As one tours the exhibit, the first poster describes our Guild and its history, and shows our Centennial Hall Tile rug, which is currently hanging in the Beaconsfield Library. Shelly Atkinson  is a self-taught visual artist and crafter from Nova-Scotia, Canada. She loves experimenting with styles, colours, textures and techniques in her paintings and illustrations. February 12, 2024. Red Day Valentine’s Day - a day to celebrate love of all kinds! For us today, we celebrated the love of our craft and our community, and we each wore something red to prove it. Our Sell and Swap sale drew in some members we had not seen for a while, which is always a treat, as friendships grow deep over the years. Standing: Brenda, Judith, Claire, Kitt. Sitting: Denise, Karen, Harold. Hearts and Chocolate! Liz chooses this hoop at our Sell and Swap sale. Jacques, Gaétan, Mayumi, and Isabelle.    Sue, Joanne, Ann, and Helen. Marianick & Gaétan / In The News

Jeu de mémoire / Exhibition     Marianick Viatour and Gaétan Berthiaume are visual artists specialising in wood sculpture. They joined our Beaconsfield Hooking Crafters Guild in September 2023, after having visited our rug exhibition in April 2023. They are having a vernissage and exhibition in Gatineau from Wednesday, January 31 through March 28. 12 sculptures will be presented, including one hooked piece, along with a short film of 28 minutes. Picnic

BHCG’s Annual Picnic  By Dawna Matthew June 8, 2024 Our picnic was a great success again this year! We had over 60 attendees along with some helpful partners who gave a hand with the set up and take down. It was wonderful to see so many friends from neighbouring groups and inspiring to see their projects during Show and Tell. We had guests from North Hero Fiber Bees, Martintown’s Wild and Woollys, the Brome County Rug Hookers, the Ormstown group, Ottawa’s Old Forge, Track 2 and St Henri along with our own BHCG members. What a great turnout. The welcoming grounds of Centennial Hall. Our lovely greeters!    Some Martintown friends amongst the many who enjoyed this annual gathering.  We were nervous about the weather, but the rain held off and everyone was fine under pop-up tents kindly supplied by several members.
