Educating About Craft    By Dawna Matthew    In the fall of 2017 Susan Feller posted an article titled “ Educating About Craft ” on her Blog  (ArtWools Studio of Susan L. Feller). In it she mentions two Quebec projects, one coordinated by Kathleen Menzies who is a member of Les Tapissiers de Saint-Henri and our project with Sherwood Forest Elementary School. This was a wonderful experience for not only the children but for all the members who participated. You can follow the link to see photos of all the happy faces ! Centennial Hall. Photo: Gérald Arbour ...

Biennial Show

BHCG Biennial Exhibition By Dawna Matthew President 2017 Biennial Show Invitation On September 30 and October 1, 2017, we, Beaconsfield Rug Hooking Guild, held our biennial show in the beautiful, historic Centennial Hall in Beaconsfield, Quebec. When planning for the show, the guild borrowed OHCG’s idea of having a theme and decided on “Covered Bridges” as that tied in nicely with OHCG’s recent “Images of Canada”. Members got to work and produced nine rugs of different covered bridges, many of which are authentic Quebec bridges. We were thrilled to have a visit from the president of the “Les Ponts Couverts au Québec”. He and his wife were very appreciative of our work and effort to honour these special structures. Of course, there were many other wonderful pieces on display, over 95 in total - and of every style and cut imaginable! One room was dedicated to antique rugs and people found it fascinating to see both the old and the new. There was even a “Covered Bridge” cake ...

Rug Hooking is alive!

Image
Arts Alive! Québec By Dawna Matthew This year’s Arts Alive! Québec event was held at St. John Fisher Junior School in Pointe Claire on Saturday, September 23 and Sunday, September 24. The guild participated on Saturday with a display of rugs, vending of our beautiful cards, promotion of our upcoming exhibition and beginners’ class. In the afternoon we offered a mini workshop where participants could hook simple designs which would be incorporated into greeting cards. As it turned out most of our workshop participants were quite young and the task may have been above them but willing mums lent their hands and everyone had fun and went away with a smile and a small piece of rug hooking in hand.
