Centennial Hall. Photo: Gérald Arbour ...

Biennial Show

BHCG Biennial Exhibition By Dawna Matthew President 2017 Biennial Show Invitation On September 30 and October 1, 2017, we, Beaconsfield Rug Hooking Guild, held our biennial show in the beautiful, historic Centennial Hall in Beaconsfield, Quebec. When planning for the show, the guild borrowed OHCG’s idea of having a theme and decided on “Covered Bridges” as that tied in nicely with OHCG’s recent “Images of Canada”. Members got to work and produced nine rugs of different covered bridges, many of which are authentic Quebec bridges. We were thrilled to have a visit from the president of the “Les Ponts Couverts au Québec”. He and his wife were very appreciative of our work and effort to honour these special structures. Of course, there were many other wonderful pieces on display, over 95 in total - and of every style and cut imaginable! One room was dedicated to antique rugs and people found it fascinating to see both the old and the new. There was even a “Covered Bridge” cake ...

Rug Hooking is alive!

Image
Arts Alive! Québec By Dawna Matthew This year’s Arts Alive! Québec event was held at St. John Fisher Junior School in Pointe Claire on Saturday, September 23 and Sunday, September 24. The guild participated on Saturday with a display of rugs, vending of our beautiful cards, promotion of our upcoming exhibition and beginners’ class. In the afternoon we offered a mini workshop where participants could hook simple designs which would be incorporated into greeting cards. As it turned out most of our workshop participants were quite young and the task may have been above them but willing mums lent their hands and everyone had fun and went away with a smile and a small piece of rug hooking in hand. This class was part of the requirements for the OHCG Teacher Training Certification. Together with members from other Area 1 branches two 2 day sessions were spent with Carol,  mastering the technique. It was great fun to get together with fellow hookers from other guilds, and yes,  it was definitely fine shading by day and some wine shading at night!!! OHCG Newsletter, Issue 3 Fall 2017, Page  32

North Hero's Report

North Hero 2017_ Champlain Valley Fiber Bees 8th Annual Fiber Fest By Dawna Matthew On August 12, several of our members made the drive down to North Hero, Vermont, and attended the Champlain Valley Fiber Bees 8th Annual Fiber Fest. What a fun filled day! There were beautiful rugs on display, loads of door prizes, a “tea cup raffle” with endless items to win and an auction with everything from hand crafted wooden bowls to wool bundles your stash cried out for! The food was plentiful and delicious. And if that wasn’t enough to keep one happy you could shop with Lindsay Krauss from Green Mountain Hooked Rugs, Mary Lee O’Connor from Hooked in the Mountains and The Crazy Janes with their colourful clothing. It was so nice to meet up with hookers from all over the area and admire their wonderful projects. Plus Queen Bee, Lynn, kept a smile on our faces all day long! Champlain Islands Fiber
