Over 375 hooked rugs and objects were on display at Hooked in the Mountains XVIII, October 19-23, 2016. The Green Mountain Rug Hooking Guild can always be counted on for mounting an impressive hooked rug exhibition. I was glad to have three days to admire the display, take a turn demonstrating rug hooking at the show, take a couple of workshops, make and renew acquaintances, and shop among the vendors. There were scheduled talks on various topics each day, some by this year's featured artists. The show included a series of rugs on interpreting Tarot cards. All of this was conveniently located on one level in a large building at the Champlain Valley Exposition Center.

Beaconsfield was represented with a mini-display about our guild, rugs by several members in the main show, and Louise's rug in the people's choice section from last year's show.

 I took one-day workshops on Hook-a-purse-in-a-day (Diane Phillips) and Zentangle (Rae Harrell).

Candace, Claire, Dawna, Mary and Ti took a workshop on hooking Van Gogh (Janet Conner). Others came down to see the show, shop and visit.

There was quite a variety in the exhibition. I was particularly taken by some of the abstract rugs, and rugs with sculpted sections, feathers and bling. Perhaps I will try some of these techniques in the future. It was a fun few days. Congratulations to the GMRHG! No doubt everyone who went came away inspired and happy.

In Memory of Sally Perodeau (October 10, 1933 to October 3, 2024) Respectfully submitted by Emmy Maten Sally Perodeau (1933-2024) We are saddened by the recent passing of one of our founding members, Sally Perodeau. In 1978, she joined the Guild which was just three years in existence at the time. Sally was keen to learn how to rug hook after being inspired by seeing a friend’s rug. She became a skilled rug hooker and made many fine and beautiful rugs, usually using narrow cuts of wool which allows more precision and detail. Sally was a wonderful organizer and was generous with her time and energy. She was the Guild President twice, from 1984-86 and again from 1997-98 and remained an active member until about 7 years ago. Our Guild member Jacqueline Bouchard helped Sally with her garden and has memories to share. “My precious memories of Sally are her culture, great family values and her love for beauty. More than Just Rugs Rug hooking exhibition from October 1st to 30th, 2024 Beaconsfield Library / Discovery Room Our 2024 October rug exhibit “More than Just Rugs” was on display at the library during the whole month of October. The library staff was enthusiastic saying there were many visitors and positive comments. 55 works were exhibited, including rugs, cushions, handbags, clothing, three-dimensional pieces, ornaments, etc., representing the versatility and creativity of textile art in a variety of rug hooking techniques, formats, aesthetics and functionality. Mittens

Mitten-making Workshop    On October 21 and October 28, Kitt organised a mitten-making workshop that brought warmth and creativity together. Each participant arrived with wool fabrics, ready to transform them into snug mitten pieces with the pattern Kitt provided. During our first session, creativity overflowed as we embellished the top mitten pieces. Some of us used the Sizzix machine to craft appliqués, while others dabbled in felting, embroidered delightful details, or hooked the mitten tops. The following Monday, our workshop space buzzed with the hum of sewing machines brought by some members. The room was filled with happy chatter as we stitched the mitten pieces together.
