Punch Needle Workshops

Sept 17 & 24, 2018
Centennial Hall

By Dawna Matthew

In June 2018, Ti Seymour and Dawna Matthew went to Vermont to take part in Amy Oxford’s Punch Needle Rug Hooking Teacher Certification Program. Punch needle Rug Hooking has seen resurgence in popularity and Amy is working hard to keep up with the demand for both materials and teachers. Ti is planning on starting a group in Abu Dhabi where she is currently living.

In September 2018, Dawna gave 2 workshops for our members who were kind enough to let her practice her teaching skills!

September 17 she showed how to work with regular Oxford punches and rug yarn. Members had a choice of patterns and a wide range of colours to choose from. Everyone caught on quickly and was well on their way to finishing by the end of the day. You can see some of their wonderful work below.

Then on September 24 the day was devoted to fine punches and 2 ply yarn. This allowed for more detail in the design and of course required more time. Members who didn’t finish in class took their piece home to complete. Again the results were beautiful!
