Glengarry Pioneer Museum
By Linda Henderson
June 28 & 29, 2014 11:00
am - 4:00 pm
Quilts, needlework, rug hooking, spinning, weaving and
anything related to the textile arts will be the theme of the weekend. Examples
from the Museum's collection, as well as rarely seen pieces from the trunks of
community members will bring warmth and colour to the Museum grounds.
Demonstrations of wool dying, hand quilting, rug hooking, spinning and weaving
will all take place with hands-on activities and potential workshops still in
the works. Textile vendors, food and refreshments will be available both days.
This is the ad posted by the Glengarry
Pioneer Museum
in Dunvegan in Eastern Ontario that attracted BHCG
members, Dawna Matthew, Linda Henderson, Claire and Candace Fradette, and Jacquie
Tseng who attended this wonderful event. Quilts and hooked rugs were on
display both outdoors and throughout the pioneer buildings on the site. A
number of vendors, including our friend Loretta Moore, were on site with
wonderful wares to tempt BHCG members as well as those from the St. Henri
group who visited. Also tempting were the items included in the raffle.
Linda Henderson was delighted to win the wonderfully generous basket supplied
by the Martintown Wild and Wooly Rug Hookers. The Martintown group's
display of hooked rugs as well as their demonstration rug drew lots of
attention. The Martintown Wild and Wooly Rug Hookers have regular
hooking get-togethers on the grounds of the Museum throughout the summer.
The Glengarry Pioneer
Museum is a special place and we
all came away with a special reverence for all these pioneer crafts that
sustained our ancestors and made their homes functional, comfortable and beautiful.
It is an honour to continue in their footsteps.
