Fête Nationale in Beaconsfield
Linda Henderson
Beaconsfield
annual Fête Nationale celebration on June
24, 2014 was scheduled to take place on the beautiful grounds of
Centennial Hall but torrents of rain moved the event indoors to the Recreation
Centre. Despite the weather, the event was well attended by hundreds of people
who seemed to delight in the many attractions and entertainment – with a
special focus on children.
Beaconsfield Hooking Crafters Guild joined a gallery of
artisans that included quilters, wood turners and food specialists. Many guild
members braved the weather and were there to demonstrate rug hooking and show
their favourite hooking projects. The BHCG booth enjoyed many visitors who were
both intrigued and admiring of the craft and our display. A number of our
sunflowers were sold and a few people signed up to become members or to try an
introductory lesson.
We were proud to take part in the Fête celebrations and present an ancestral Quebec craft.
