Halloween Fun at the Guild We had our Halloween party today, with 25 people showing up! Since we’re all still coming down from the big exhibition, we decided to keep it pretty low-key—but a few spirited members still arrived in full costume. Every year, creative costumes bring delightful surprises! Two Mrs. Ropers and Groovy Gal. Witches and Spider webs weave Spooky Fun! Chris spent some time getting our finances sorted, Dawna offered to run a proddy pumpkin workshop, and we tossed around a few ideas for this year’s Christmas party. One of our newest members, Nathalie, a beginner, shared her beautiful full-sized rug that she finished in record time! Nathalie’s beautiful rug. Between the laughter, Kitt’s themed pumpkin cookies, and Juliet’s fresh country apples, it was the perfect mix of creativity and camaraderie.

It was such a privilege to welcome family and friends together to mark this incredible milestone – a half century dedicated to the celebration and advancement of rug hooking in our community, our guild started 50 years ago by Lois J Morris. First and foremost, our thanks went to Geneviève Dubé, Animator for Culture & Leisure, Julie Poirier-Monette, Animator for Cultural Life, and the City of Beaconsfield for the incredible opportunity to meet weekly in beautiful Centennial Hall throughout these years, and for their continuous support and opportunities to engage with the public. Mug Rug Workshop  Introduction to Rug Hooking Beaconsfield Library / Discovery Room Sunday, September 28th 2025 The City of Beaconsfield invited us to hold a workshop in the Discovery Room of the Library, and we were delighted to accept the opportunity.  We prepared mug rug kits for each participant, drawing simple patterns on burlap stretched and stapled over wooden hoops (sold for making wreaths). We included adequate wool strips, size 6 cut, in assorted colours plus bilingual instructions and a hook. We had a great turn-out for the workshop. Busy at work. At the end of the 2-hour workshop, we announced the winner of our door prize, a colourful mug with matching mug rug!  Mug and matching rug. Three participants have since joined our guild, seen here with Claire. Many thanks to Chris, Joanne, Elizabeth, Jacques, Leslie and Claire! 

Library Display to Promote our Rug Exhibition  September 28, 2025 Today, to promote our upcoming 50th Anniversary Rug Exhibition, we transformed the library entrance by arranging Dawna’s vibrant, autumn-inspired rugs and cheerful pumpkins alongside Fay’s hoop, plus a cutter, a hook, and a couple of informative library books on rug hooking—all displayed inside the glass cabinet to capture the attention of visitors as they arrive. We added a sign promoting our event, complete with dates and times, inviting everyone to discover our craft. Display case at the library entrance.

Beaconsfield Artisans’ Fair Saturday, September 20th 2025 Our booth at the Beaconsfield Artisans’ Fair was a tremendous success, thanks to the hard work of our talented creators and volunteers. Dawna’s Proddy handbags and baskets sold like hotcakes!  We welcomed a wonderful turnout from the community, with many unique handmade items finding new homes, and even attracting some people to sign up for our mug rug workshop to be held a week later.  Isabelle and Jacques put together a complete rug hooking kit along with a complimentary one-year membership for a raffle, which is ongoing until October 20, when the winner will be announced.  Our sale plus the raffle raised substantial funds to support our projects, and we are grateful for everyone’s enthusiastic participation. Fête nationale du Québec in Centennial Park Centennial Park buzzed with excitement during the hottest day of the summer so far. The City’s event planners had the public’s comfort foremost in mind, providing a misting station, Freezies, and ice-cold wet towels to provide relief from the heat. The misting station – So refreshing! There were activities for all ages. Highlights included a petting zoo, a children’s hairdressing station run by theatre artists, a stage with live music, food trucks, and interactive displays at booths prepared by Beaconsfield’s Associations. Three children patiently await their hairdos at the Hair Dressing Station. At our booth, we displayed an assortment of hooked rugs, shared information about our craft, and engaged visitors to try their hand at rug hooking. Ready to greet the public. Our Annual Picnic Centennial Hall, June 7, 2025 Photos courtesy of Laura This year’s picnic was another resounding success! Thank you to several dedicated husbands who arrived early to set up tents and carry tables and then returned in the afternoon for take-down. Sixty-five enthusiastic participants gathered, reconnected with friends, and were inspired by the creativity on display during Show and Tell. Guests came from near and far to join our members, making for a truly impressive turnout. We were joined by Brome County, Martintown, Montreal West, North Hero, Ormstown, Ottawa, Pointe Claire (Track2) and Thousand Islands/Brockville. Though we were initially concerned about the air quality warnings due to smoke from forest fires, the air was fine in time for our gathering. Attendees enjoyed a lively paper bag auction, several door prizes, a 50/50 draw, plus our vendors Dawna, Isabelle and Jacques offered tempting wares of all kinds for rug hookers.
